What dream are you currently turning into reality?
Pursuing a music artist and acting career.
When did you first realize you discovered your dream?
I realized I discovered my dream when I was very young. I was always doing talent shows and musical events, even open mic nights.
However, it wasn’t till high school, when I began doing spoken word poetry, that I found my voice and passion for connecting with people through art and performance.
How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?
My faith is a big part of the pursuit of my dream. Firstly, I believe God gifts each person with talent and purpose. It’s in the pursuit where a person builds their relationship with God and finds themselves at the same time.
Pursuing my dream full-time is one of the scariest endeavours I’ve ever faced, and it’s only by faith that I find the push and inspiration to continue doing what I do.
One word that's been the theme of my pursuit is anointed. It allows me to look beyond self-doubt, regret, shortcomings, and insecurities. It helps me focus on the fact that I’m set apart for a purpose to build the Kingdom of God, and to be a light to people in all circumstances.
Knowing there's something bigger than myself takes away all the anxiety and stress of having to do everything perfectly.
What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?
I am lucky enough to have a team that believes in me and my dream - Sometimes almost more than I believe it myself. They’re amazing at keeping me accountable.
We have a shared calendar with all my goals, meetings, studio sessions, etc. That calendar is like a detailed map that makes sure we’re making progress each and every day.
My team is also very resourceful and each have different personalities that compliment mine - It helps us cover each other's blind spots.
We also have a team meeting every week where we talk about each success and failure for the previous week and how we can improve for the next week. Just being able to talk it out with people who are creative, and understand the vision, is a tremendous help and makes all the difference.
What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?
It’s important to surround yourself with positive people who motivate you, inspire you, and who are also inspired by you.
The atmosphere in which you cultivate and pursue your dream is extremely important - It’s the soil in which you plant seeds. The people around you create this atmosphere alongside you, and it can either energize you with positivity, sound advice, and wisdom, or tear you down with apathy and negativity. The healthier the soil, the healthier the produce. You reap what you sow, but you also reap the quality of what you sow into.
