Dash Garcia
Our good friend Dash is with us for this week’s Dreamos Round Table, and let me just say, her words are as powerful as her designs are creative.Since moving to Chicago in 2017, Dash has been growing her roots and building her dreams in the city’s expansive creative community.
She uses her love for fashion, photography and graphic design to connect with others and bring their vision to life. Her unique ability to capture concepts and transform them into visuals has given her the opportunity to design at highly influential levels.
Dash is such a killer example for what it looks like to let go of something good to take hold of something great. I know you’ll be encouraged as you hear more from her heart, story, and pursuit.
What dream are you currently turning into reality?
The dream is to become an influential designer that uses her platform as an opportunity to impact people’s lives through different avenues such as fashion, graphic design, and photography.
When did you first realize you discovered your dream?
I moved to Chicago soon after an unexpected collapse of a dream I had since I was 12. I obtained that dream and then watched it all crumble. So in 2017, I moved to Chicago and started exploring myself and the things that brought me joy. I started with photography, shifted to graphics, and then dipped my toes in fashion. I would say I discovered this new dream when friends in Chicago started recognizing gifts in me and urging me to keep pursuing them. I felt like I needed to give creativity a shot, so I did. I shortly realized this was a God dream when favor and opportunity started following.
How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?
It’s not so much about the dream as it is the Dream Giver. The dream God gives us is our assignment here on earth to bring God glory. On the days I want to give up, when I feel like nothing is working or I don’t feel good enough, I’m reminded that I’m on assignment. If God called me to it, HE will see me through it. If He called me to it, then He’s equipped me for it. If He’s called me to it, He will make a way.
What encouragement would you give someone who’s going after their dream?
Hold loosely to the dream and hold tightly to the Dream Giver. Do the best with what’s been put in your hands. Your assignment has been tailored and hand selected to fit you, so don’t allow comparison to creep in. Keep getting back up when you feel knocked down. You can do it!
