Amy Waters
The one, the only, Amy Waters is with us for this week’s Round Table, and we’re absolutely stoked. Amy’s an actress, model, and producer from Nashville, TN, now building brands and developing dreams in Los Angeles, CA. The pursuit of her dreams led her to co-creating “The Touring Toddler”, and become operational manager for singer-songwriter duo Johnnyswim. Amy’s an incredible example of what can happen when you let faith lead the way. We hope you’re encouraged and inspired by hearing a little more of her heart, pursuit, and story.
What dream are you currently turning into reality?
As of 2:41pm, I’m trying to put a lot of dreams into action, with acting being #1. I moved to LA to continue my pursuit in acting, since it’s not too saturated yet…*eye twitch*. So much of this dream is doing everything you possibly can (headshots, classes, mass emails to agents etc..) and then letting go completely. I’m also working on producing, directing, and social media branding, which are all newfound dreams that occurred from taking steps towards acting.
When did you first realize you discovered your dream?
I knew I was born for the camera since my first seconds on earth....jk that’s so intense. But it really was from a young age that I knew I wanted to be an actress. I started off performing in ballet recitals when I was six, and then an agent discovered me from a show and I started out in modeling. My first big gig was when I was eight, and I caught the “bug” bad. Fast forward to 2020 with a lot of new passions discovered. I realized that I love being behind the camera as well, and have new dreams for producing and directing content. My foundational dream has grown branches of newfound creativity, which is so fun to discover more things that I love.
How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?
I consider my relationship with Jesus to be the actual dream I’m pursuing. Having a strong attachment to a dream is filled with a lot of pain and heartbreak. I found myself striving for affirmation amidst my failures, with exchange for emptiness. For a long time I clung onto what God had given to me, and wasn’t willing to release it. I was putting my trust in the gift, instead of who had given it to me. I also had to define myself with no titles.
While I am an actress and creative, those are not my names. I have to release my dreams every single day, and tune into that gut feeling that it’s still what I need to be doing. I don’t want my dreams to be tangible occupations or projects, I want them only to be defined by the name Jesus.
What encouragement would you give someone who’s going after their dream?
We can look at big pictures and say we wanna change the world, but we also need to take the practical, tangible steps to get there. For example, what does your dream look like on a Monday at 7am? The more you think about when you’ll get things done, the more you’ll get accomplished. Also, live in the present as much as possible. When you put your focus on what’s in front of you, you’ll find tomorrow will figure itself out.
