What dream are you currently turning into reality?

I’m currently in pursuit of making my photography business my full-time job.

When did you first realize you discovered your dream?

I would say I discovered my dream of pursuing photography as my career during the fall of 2016, some months after getting my first camera. I had just started college and was majoring in business. Most people who major in business look forward to working in the corporate world post-graduation. But, it was totally different for me. Deep down I felt that I wanted to be a business owner. And, so in 2017, the Lord gave me boldness to set that dream into motion. I launched my very own photography business, “Purpose Portraits”.

How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?

My entire photography journey is rooted in faith. In fact, receiving my first camera was an answered prayer. When I started out, most of my shooting took place at my church. I’d usually be shooting events there or capturing intimate moments of worship. Honestly, I wouldn’t even be where I am today in my photography journey had it not been for God. He truly has, and continues to, open doors of opportunity for me.

What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?

One thing that has helped me grow over these years is writing things down. Whether it be a goal of mine, or an idea that popped in my head, I always write it down. Remember that episode of “Spongebob” when Spongebob had the magic pencil? And, remember how he drew himself and it came to life? As you write things down, you’re able to start taking steps toward accomplishing your goal - Bringing the idea to life.

What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?

Two words - Trust God. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Another translation says that when you trust and acknowledge Him in your life, “He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].” I’m telling you, when you trust God, He’ll guide you and open so many doors. I’m a living testimony of that. Jesus never fails.
