What dream are you currently turning into reality?
A career pursuit I’m turning into reality is Commercial Photography and Creative Direction.
When did you first realize you discovered your dream?
I fell into photography from early Instagram days (2013-2014). I was in Bible College and some roommates invited me to an “Insta-meet”. After, I began running around with an iPhone for years before finally picking up a camera. It wasn't until the end of 2017 when I started shooting for clients and realized I wanted to dive in and tell stories forever.
How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?
My faith goes hand-in-hand like gasoline goes with a vehicle. I can only create, encourage, and dream at the level I open up and spend time in the word & prayer. The more I do, the more luxurious and innovative the “vehicle” becomes, but it wont go anywhere or serve any purpose if I dont put “gasoline” in it.
What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?
A couple of practical ways for me to keep moving forward is having a design mood-board full of work that is far more impressive than mine. It serves as something inspiring, something to push me.
Second, is something that often isn’t mentioned for moving “forward,” and that's resting. I always take a day off to rest - Spending that time with my wife and son, and/or doing a hobby. Consistently resting will take you farther, and significantly reduce the possibility of burnout.
What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?
There’s a line by Erwin McManus that’s stuck with me - “Courage is more powerful than talent.” You don’t have to be the most talented in the room, but if you have the courage to try, to take risks, to empower others; You will achieve great things.
