What dream are you currently turning into reality?

Acting and producing feature films with people I love. I just launched an equity crowdfunding campaign to raise additional investments for finishing my (mostly shot) feature “Gym Rat”, and I look forward to getting back on set for pickups.

When did you first realize you discovered your dream?

It’s hard to pinpoint the “big” moment, it’s often a series of revelations. I used to create movies in my head growing up - Not dreaming of actually doing them, but what they would look like. But in 2010, when I was making my first short film, “The Soliloquy”, I got a taste of actually making it happen. I gathered a team of friends and acquaintances, and was able to experiment and collaborate creatively. Seeing the vision in my head materialize on the screen was so fun and exciting. Once I sat in dark rooms with others, and was able to see them react and be moved by that creation, it really solidified the dream I needed to keep pursuing.

How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?

As an artist, my goal is to give people an experience of truth. My faith journey is really about knowing the Truth and being transformed by it. The more I do, the more truth I have to share. Even my practical obstacles as an actor, the hangups and the fears, are really an absence of truth in that area. I can literally see and experience the difference as I grow and mature spiritually, even in my craft. It’s even more important than the technical aspects of training (which are still important).

What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?

I aim to do at least one thing for my business and my craft every day. Something that is making me a better artist and something that is getting me closer to being able to use that gift. It’s usually more than one thing, but the more something becomes a daily practice, the more it becomes developed. The momentum of small, steady progress, is key.

What encouragement would you give someone who’s going after their dream?

Don’t wait to live the dream - Live the dream now and keep making the dream bigger. If you wait to appreciate the experience until you see the ultimate fulfillment of your dream, you will likely get burnt out before you get there. It’s easy to lose your joy, or even forget why you want something in the first place, if you’re only looking to the future to be happy. As my acting teacher Carol always says, “Seek the joy of your experience now.”
