James Chester

James is a music producer, songwriter, music artist, and tech entrepreneur getting after his dreams from Nashville, TN.

With big faith and bold moves, James takes the risks needed to get where he dreams to go. A tech entrepreneur by day and pop artist “Conventioner” by night, James writes about life and relationships over a bed of buzzy synths, clean guitars, and 80s beats. His single “Patterns”, is on its way to crossing 1M streams on Spotify and he’s currently releasing his latest record, “Dreams.”

Whether it’s in the studio, a meeting, or on a plane, James uses wherever he’s at to make a difference in the lives of those around him.

What dream are you currently turning into reality?

I moved to Nashville 4 years ago to focus on music. Since then, I’ve met so many others pursuing their big dreams, and they’ve become really close friends.

Something powerful happens when you surround yourself with a strong community, especially one traveling in the same direction.

When did you first realize you discovered your dream?

I’ve wanted to write music since I was 9 years old listening to tapes and CDs from the backseat.

How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?

My faith is the center of my identity and my foundation for decision making. It defines my worldview and anchors my view of things.

Because of that, I don’t need to seek popularity or material success for validation. When I’m able to live in that, it results in freedom.

To me, success is really about pursuing the dreams you have in a way that pleases God - Regardless of the outcome.

What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?

I create to-do lists, build Google Slide Decks, and talk to trusted friends about what I intend to do. This keeps me motivated.

Whenever I have big plans, it’s important for me to break it down into small, practical steps and externalize my intentions.

What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?

Work hard and be nice to people.
