Essence Ransome
Essence is a fashion, lifestyle, bts, and live show photographer building her dreams from Atlanta, GA.
The moment Essence picked up a camera was the moment she discovered her passion. What started out as a hobby quickly turned into a career. Whether it’s shooting on sets, at shows, or behind the scenes, Essence sees the magic in the moment and brings it all to life.
As Essence continues dreaming for bigger things, she dives even deeper into what she believes and how she wants to create. To her, it’s not just a career, it’s an everyday lifestyle.
What dream are you currently turning into reality?
I love to photograph fashion, behind the scenes, lifestyle and music/live shows on film and digital. After nearly 9 years of shooting, I’m still finding new ways to enjoy this medium that’s developed me into the person I’ve always wanted to be.
When did you first realize you discovered your dream?
During my final week of high school, my older brother let me borrow his DSLR, because I wanted to capture some final high school memories before my friends and I went our separate ways. I immediately fell in love with photography and haven’t put down the camera since.
By October after high school, I set up my first shoot and learned how to edit the photos. Looking back on my work, it actually wasn’t bad. But, I love how much I’ve improved and how much I continue to improve.
How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?
Divine timing is the basis for both my life and this dream I’ve decided to pursue. Knowing that everything that’s “meant to be will be,” allows me to just go with the flow and not stress over things I thought could/should have been. Everything that is meant for me, comes for me exactly when it needs to.
What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?
To keep moving forward, I like to take breaks every few months. Prior to realizing I needed these breaks, I would burnout and continue working, but it would be far from the best of my abilities.
I have found that resting is just as important to my progress as learning new things is. I’ve been able to easily avoid burnout now that I am able to identify it. When I feel burnout encroaching on my creativity, I watch shows and movies as a way to relax while also igniting new creative thoughts. Going outside/traveling, listening to music and eating well also tremendously helps me avoid burning out.
What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?
Don’t compare your journey to anybody else’s. We all have unique paths that we’re meant to be on. Once you accept that - You’ll find what matters most is finding joy in what you do while giving it your all.
