What dream are you currently turning into reality?

Being able to support my future wife while having a job that doesn’t compromise my aspirations is a big deal. I recently got offered a job doing studio photography in the fashion industry, and it feels like anything but real life. I’m currently and always will be pursuing the creative field in any aspect, but there’s something special about photography.

When did you first realize you discovered your dream?

I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t holding a camera. My dad has been a photographer for his whole life as well, and I would inherit every piece of old gear he had. I didn’t start to fall in love with it until I saw that it could be a hobby, not just a job. Walking around with a camera quickly became one of my favorite pastimes.

How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?

My faith in fact is the only reason I am able to pursue my aspirations. My hands were created to construct, make music, make art. By me even taking a photo, God is honored. I view it all as worship.

What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?

Sometimes, the only way I can get anything done is if my fiance or friend keeps bugging me about it. I rely pretty heavily on accountability.

I also do my best not to allow myself to compare other people’s work to mine. If there’s a scale to success, then comparison will always put you on the lower end. And, feeling like I’m actually creating something good will make me want to keep pursuing any goal I have.

What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?

Aside from what social media might suggest, you don’t need to compare your work to others. Your art and goals are tailor-made for you. So, create something that’s cool to you, something you love. That’s what’ll take you forward.
